Dr. Douglas Maclean
Dr Douglas Maclean is a Qld trained Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in all surgical procedures of the hip, knee and shoulder. His practice focuses on joint replacement and reconstructive surgery of all three joints with extensive experience in these fields.
He became a fully qualified orthopaedic surgeon in 2007, where he moved to the Sunshine Coast to raise his family. He was Director of Othopaedics at Nambour General Hospital for 7 years before starting private practice. He still has a public appointment with QLD Health now at Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
Dr. Maclean has been operating in the Sunshine Coast and Noosa regions for over a decade, providing high-quality care with an emphasis on service for its residents. He has been able to combine his experience with recent advances in surgical techniques and technologies, to benefit patients seeking advice and care. His priority is to provide a high quality, caring approach to the prompt diagnosis, treatment, and management of all hip, knee, and shoulder conditions.
After spending time as a Staff Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Nambour Hospital, he then embarked on further overseas post-graduate fellowship training, attaining appointments to prestigious fellowships in Belgium and Italy, under the mentorship of world leaders in hip, knee and shoulder surgery.
Dr Maclean continually maintains his surgery skills by attending conference throughout the world , looking at new technologies and techniques to improve his patient outcomes. He has performed the Anterior Approach to hip replacement surgery since 2009 and does 95% of his surgery in this manner with suitable patients. He teaches this surgery to junior surgeon here at Sunshine Coast University Hospital. He is the most senior orthopaedic surgeon on staff in the public system.
In addition Dr Maclean has performed hip arthroscopy surgery for the local sunshine residents for more than decade. He is the only surgeon locally who can do this operation , otherwise resident need to travel to Brisbane.
He is now adding robotic knee replacement surgery to his list of surgeries after analysis this new technology over a few years. He will perform the first robotic knee replacement at Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital in August 2020.
Dr. Maclean is a passionate sportsman, having achieved national honours in swimming and surf lifesaving when he was younger. He is still a keen surfer and triathlete, having also ‘discovered’ cycling in recent years. His other sporting interests include rugby union, rugby league and Australian rules football, having played all three codes while he was growing up.
