Dr. Douglas Maclean

Dr Douglas Maclean is a Qld trained Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in all surgical procedures of the hip, knee and shoulder. His practice focuses on joint replacement and reconstructive surgery of all three joints with extensive experience in these fields.

He became a fully qualified orthopaedic surgeon in 2007, where he moved to the Sunshine Coast to raise his family. He was Director of Othopaedics at Nambour General Hospital for 7 years before starting his private practice. He still has a public appointment with QLD Health now at Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

Dr. Maclean has been operating in the Sunshine Coast and Noosa regions for over a decade, providing high-quality care with an emphasis on service for its residents. He has been able to combine his experience with recent advances in surgical techniques and technologies, to benefit patients seeking advice and care. His priority is to provide a high quality, caring approach to the prompt diagnosis, treatment, and management of all hip, knee, and shoulder conditions.

After spending time as a Staff Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Nambour Hospital, he then embarked on further overseas post-graduate fellowship training, attaining appointments to prestigious fellowships in Belgium and Italy, under the mentorship of world leaders in hip, knee and shoulder surgery.

Dr Maclean continually maintains his surgery skills by attending conferences throughout the world, looking at new technologies and techniques to improve his patients outcomes. He has performed the Anterior Approach to hip replacement surgery since 2009 and does 95% of his surgery in this manner with suitable patients. He teaches this surgery to junior surgeon here at Sunshine Coast University Hospital. He is the most senior orthopaedic surgeon on staff in the public system.

In addition Dr Maclean has performed hip arthroscopy surgery for the local sunshine residents for more than decade. He is the only surgeon locally who can do this operation, otherwise residents need to travel to Brisbane.
